Point & Shoot: A Collage of Youth, Identity and Surrealism

My Upcoming Exhibition ‘Point & Shoot’ is a collation of Youth, Belonging and Surrealism.

Consisting of outtakes curated with the intention of merging visuals of youth expression, these photographs portray a sense of vulnerability in self-expression. I like to take elements of a home and place individuals within this context, enunciating the feeling of belonging and contentment. With domestic items like a rug, or a lamp, the sense of warmth amplifies the individual’s presence in the room, anchoring them.

Using animal imagery brings a zoomorphic approach to expressing the portrayal of the individuals in my work through the connoting ideas we possess of these animals.

Few of my works are my renditions of found imagery in magazine archives that gained traction within the 90’s and early 2000’s, of youth representations in freedom to deviate from normative presentations, and I use this to play with the way we unconsciously attach meaning to superficiality.

I’m looking forward to share ‘Point & Shoot’ with you all, Whether you relate to the vulnerability in expression, the grounding feeling of changing within a domestic setting, or the fluidity of surreal narratives, I hope this collection resonates.
